KOLIČINE OTPADA MJERE SE U STOTINAMA TONA

UKRATKO

DEBRIS AMOUNTS TO HUNDREDS OF TONS

SUMMARY

"Estimates that suggested that in every larger town in Bosnia and Herzegovina hit by the there would be 300 tons of debris after the water subsided proved accurate. Actually, the amount varies from 300 to 500 or more tons. “All sorts of things are there – from ruined furniture from people’s houses, apartments and offices, to various iron debris which the water carried, and from plastics, building materials, mud and silt, to dead cattle...”, “The UNDP trained people, gave them masks, boots, shovels, brooms, and 35 BAM each [17.5 euros] per day. They hired unemployed people from the Job Centers, gave them at least some satisfaction. Just imagine that in this disaster at least some people got a job...” says Bogdanović. Among them is 30-year old Dragan, and this is his first job for which he knows he’s getting paid. He says he hardly ever puts down his shovel, and when asked what he will do after the cleaning operation ends, he wittily replied: “We’ve been through hell, now we’re in purgatory, I suppose heaven is next."
